Curtiss A

Curtiss A (aka Curt Almsted) is a fixture in Minneapolis rock and roll since 1978, when he recorded along with his punk-ish combo the Spooks. Hardly ever really a punk rocker in the original feeling, Almsted was even more of a origins rock and roll wiseguy more affected by John Lennon than John Lydon. In the past due ’70s and early ’80s, he was a big area of the burgeoning pre-Replacements/Hüsker Dü Minneapolis rock and roll scene which, at that time, included the Suburbs, Suicide Commandos, Flamin’ Ohs, and Hypstryz. He documented an excellent debut record, Courtesy (with potential Replacement Thin Dunlap on business lead acoustic guitar), which brought him and indie label Twin/Firmness acclaim. Since his last recording (1988’s so-so A Scarlett Notice, with ex-NRBQ guitarist Al Anderson up to speed), he offers kept an exceptionally low profile.
