Chris Pyne

b. 14 Feb 1939, Bridlington, Yorkshire, Britain, d. 12 Apr 1995, London, Britain. Pyne was a self-taught trombonist whose preliminary band knowledge was using a Royal Atmosphere Force music group during his Country wide Assistance (1960-61). He afterwards appeared within a succession of products through the entire 60s, including John Cox’s music group, Alexis Korner’s Blues Included, Humphrey Lyttelton, John Dankworth, Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes and Maynard Ferguson. Pyne was a consummately professional studio room musician who documented with Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett and performed on a lot of Frank Sinatra’s UK travels. Pyne got a refined, accurate playing design that reflected an early on preference for J.J. Johnson. Through the 70s and 80s he caused, amongst others, Mike Gibbs, Kenny Wheeler, Gordon Beck, John Taylor and John Surman. Pyne’s sibling, Mike Pyne, was also a jazz musician.
