Brian Priestley

b. 10 July 1946, Manchester, Britain. Priestley researched piano as a kid, later on playing in rings whilst their studies at college or university. In the first 70s he had written preparations for the Country wide Youngsters Jazz Orchestra and performed in various little groups. Later on he was co-leader with Dave Gelly of Stylus. He caused Alan Cohen within the music of Duke Ellington, documenting ‘Black, Brownish And Beige’ in 1972 and producing a public efficiency in the 1988 Ellington Convention. In the past due 80s and early 90s, he led his personal group, the Unique Septet, documenting both a tribute recording to Ellington and a live concert with ex-Ellington musician Expenses Berry. Furthermore to his playing and organizing, Priestley was for quite some time a normal broadcaster on BBC Radio London. He in addition has written many books, including functions on Charles Mingus, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, and offers contributed articles to many leading music mags. With Ian Carr and Digby Fairweather he’s co-author of Jazz: THE FUNDAMENTAL Companion.
