Along with bassist/vocalist Phil Lynott, drummer Brian Downey was the just other person in Irish rockers Slim Lizzy to stay with the group right from the start before end. Blessed in Dublin, Ireland on January 27, 1951, Downey was raised in the close by city of Crumlin, where he inherited a like of music from his dad (who performed in an area pipe music group). By the first ’60s, Downey was playing the drums, and had taken see of up-and-coming Uk Invasion bands, like the Kinks, the Rolling Rocks, as well as the Beatles. Immediately after, Downey started providing the backbeat for many regional bands, like the Liffey Beats as well as the Mod Con Cave Dwellers. It had been while an associate of the last mentioned music group that Downey fulfilled another regional musician, Phil Lynott, who was simply the frontman for an organization called the Dark Eagles. It wasn’t a long time before Lynott asked Downey to become listed on his group, which resulted in an extended and successful musical romantic relationship. The duo would ultimately go on to create Thin Lizzy in 1970 (with guitarist Eric Bell). The trio would continue to concern such albums as 1971’s Thin Lizzy, 1972’s Tones of the Blue Orphanage, and 1973’s Vagabonds from the , THE BURKHA (plus credit scoring a sizeable Western european hit having a cover of “Whiskey in the Jar”), before Bell break up. But it will be Lizzy’s following incarnation that might be their most effective, with a set of guitarists changing Bell in 1974 (Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham). Lizzy discovered themselves gradually becoming among the world’s best hard rock functions, on the effectiveness of such produces as 1974’s Night time Life, 1975’s Fighting with each other, 1976’s Jailbreak and Johnny the Fox, 1977’s Poor Status, and 1978’s Live and Harmful (the second option which included a tour de push Downey drum single in the music “Sha La La” ). But with big style success arrived hard living, which effected Downey’s mental and physical condition so terribly that he previously to have a short break from your band within the eve of the Australian tour in past due 1978 (with program drummer Tag Nauseef completing). But Downey could deal with his life through the short break, and came back towards the group once and for all, playing on such additional albums as 1979’s Dark Rose, 1980’s Chinatown, 1981’s Renegade, plus 1983’s Thunder and Lightning and Existence Live. Lizzy split immediately after, and tragically, in 1986, Lynott passed away from many years of drug abuse. During his tenure with Lynott and co., Downey also performed on countless Lizzy-related recordings — a tribute to Deep Crimson known as Funk Junction (along with Lynott and Bell), Gary Moore’s Back again on the Roads, the Lynott single produces Single in Soho as well as the Philip Lynott Record, John Sykes’ DO NOT Leave Me, and also a single with the Greedy Bastards, “A Merry Jingle.” In the wake of Lizzy’s divide, it appeared as if Downey had dropped off the facial skin of the planet earth, but with the past due ’80s, the drummer came back via an obscure music group called the infant Snakes who released their exclusive album, Sweet Craving for food, in 1988. Downey also performed on a set of extra Gary Moore single albums, including 1988’s Following the Battle (including an epic tribute to Lynott, “Bloodstream of Emeralds”) and 1990’s Still Got the Blues. Downey once again disappeared for quite some time, before reappearing within a fresh Dublin clothing, Blues IN ADVANCE, in 1998. The group has frequently in Dublin, and released a live documenting in 1999, Completely from Dublin. Furthermore to his Blues IN ADVANCE responsibilities, Downey also operates his own internet site, www.briandowneyondrums.com, and was featured with an archival discharge issued in 2002, Phil Lynott’s Reside in Sweden 1983.
