Antonio Il Verso

As students of Pietro Vinci, Il Verso was enabled to create Vinci’s functions posthumously along with a few of his own early compositions. Il Verso spent the majority of his existence in Palermo and nearly all his functions were devoted from that town. The few exceptions had been three books of madrigals from Venice where time he most likely lived there instead of Palermo (between 1600 and 1603). It’s been ascertained that Il Verso probably did not keep any public workplace although the majority of his functions were focused on members of the federal government and aristocracy. He published “Historio della citta di Piazza” and edited Arcadelt’s “Primo libro de madrigali a quattro voci con una gionta di diversi autori.” Il Verso’s pupils included Cali, del Pomo, Campisi, and Formica. The main genre of Il Verso’s musical functions had been books of madrigals. Twenty of his secular functions had been poems of Vinci’s that Il Verso arranged to music. Relatively, Il Verso’s elaborations of Vinci had been simple reconstructions but he used diverse results and richer harmonies. In his development from his initial reserve of five voiced madrigals to his fifteenth reserve Il Verso transferred some distance. Generally in most of his compositions, nevertheless, Il Verso preserved melodies which were illustrative from the textual materials and utilized harmonies that equalized polyphony with melody. He attemptedto obtain the ideals of Zacconi (“Praticca di musica”) giving every tone of voice equal treatment without preferences. The text messages which Il Verso utilized most often had been those by Tasso but he also utilized functions by Marino, Petrarch, Colonna, and Casoni. His sacred functions demonstrated an in depth parallel with those of Gabrieli.
