Ake Persson

An excellent trombonist with an attractive tone, Ake Persson worked progressively in European countries during his prime years and sometimes guested with American jazzmen who have been in tour. Among Persson’s organizations over time had been Simon Brehm (1951-1954), Arne Domnerus, Hacke Bjorksten, Harry Arnold’s Swedish Radio Music group (1956-1961), Quincy Jones’ big music group (playing for the ill-fated Totally free and Easy present), Lars Gullin, the RIAS Big Music group (1961-1975), as well as the Kenny Clarke & Francy Boland Big Music group (1963-1971). Additionally, Persson acquired possibilities to play with George Wallington, Roy Haynes, Benny Bailey, Count number Basie (1962), Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillespie, among numerous others. Persson, regarded among the best Western european bop trombonists from the 1950s and ’60s, led four quantities apiece during periods for Metronome in 1953, Philips in 1957, EmArcy from 1956-1957, and Metronome once again in 1959 — 16 choices in all.
