Although located in america, every one of the members from the five-man Grupo Arpex result from Mexico. They play the conjunto de arpa grande design of mariachi music, which created in the traditional western Mexico area of Tierra Caliente. Performed on harp, two violins, and two guitars, the design also uses high-pitched, non-falsetto male vocals. Grupo Arpex’s record ¡Tierra Caliente! premiered on Smithsonian Folkways in 2006.
