A trombonist who initially studied tuba and played trombone. He performed briefly using the Boyd Raeburn orchestra like a 16-year-old, after that relocated to Hollywood in 1943. He was among Stan Kenton’s trombone soloists in the past due ’40s and early ’50s. Bernhart reunited with Raeburn in 1947 and used Benny Goodman in 1948 and 1949. He was a occupied session player with the ’50s, performing classes with Maynard Ferguson, Howard Rumsey and Shorty Rogers. Bernhart was also within the Columbia Photos staff orchestra within the middle-’50s, and later on did film, tv and recording classes and club times.
