Smashing Orange

Shaped by siblings Rob and Sara Montejo, Smashing Orange was the American reaction to the shoegaze movement afoot within the U.K. through the early to mid-’90s, with affects of ’60s garage area rock thrown in to the mix once and for all measure. Their preliminary singles and EPs had been released in the U.K. to very much acclaim, but didn’t measure the same response on the house shores. They released their debut LP, The Cup Bead Game, for the American Indigenous imprint in 1992, making use of their follow-up, No Come back in the long run, released on main label MCA 2 yrs later. Soon after its discharge the group faded out into obscurity and disbanded. An anthology of the early function (appropriately entitled 1991) was released for the Elephant Rock label in 2005.
