2814

2814 (often stylized in full-width personas for aesthetic reasons) is a cooperation between David Russo (aka Hong Kong Express or HKE) and Luke Laurila (t e l e p a t h), two prolific performers from the vaporwave picture. Their are 2814 moves from the kitschy slowed-down examples, Muzak-like textures, and ironic pop tradition appropriation normally from the genre, incorporating unique instrumentation and arriving much nearer to the rain-soaked dystopia of Vangelis’ Cutting tool Runner score, aswell as a number of the even more spiritual, emotionally extreme ambient techno through the ’90s. The duo produced their debut in 2014 having a self-titled full-length released by netlabel Ailanthus Recordings. This arranged the stage for Delivery of a fresh Day, which made an appearance in early 2015 on Russo’s Fantasy Catalogue label. Nearly instantly, the album’s dreamy atmospherics and nostalgic melodies struck a chord with listeners, and it became an instantaneous cult traditional. The album experienced many pressings (including a cassette launch by American label Not really Not Fun), as well as received unexpected interest from Rolling Rock, who interviewed the duo that November. Highly expected follow-up Rainfall Temple made an appearance in July of 2016.
