Wuthering Heights

As their name suggests, Copenhagen, Denmark’s Wuthering Heights is really a band whose eclectic mixture of progressive, force, and folk music-into-heavy steel facilitates the literate lyrical subject material included in their many albums. Originally founded in 1997 in the ashes of another group with literary inspirations called Minas Tirith, Wuthering Heights’ initial recorded lineup contains guitarist Erik Ravn, bassist Kaspar Gram, key pad participant Rune S. Brink, drummer Morten Nødgaard, and Swedish vocalist Kristian “Krille” Andrén (a veteran of Memento Mori, Tad Morose, among others). This lineup’s initial cooperation, 1999’s Within, solidly set up the band’s interesting musical palette (augmented with traditional equipment like bagpipes, violins, and flutes) and established the stage for regularly participating follow-ups like 2002’s TO VISIT for Evermore, 2004’s Definately not the Madding Audience (which introduced brand-new frontman, Nils Patrik Johansson, of Lion’s Talk about, Space Odyssey, etc.), and 2006’s The Darkness Cupboard. A well-deserved break implemented for Wuthering Heights, but guitarist and key songwriter Ravn also held active composing the group’s following ambitious idea piece, Sodium, which surfaced in early 2010 and delved into oceanic imagery for motivation.
