Viva Saturn can be an offshoot from the neo-psychedelic pop music group, Rain Parade, that was a pivotal group in Los Angeles’ Paisley Underground in the first to mid-’80s. In 1988, founding member David Roback remaining Rain Parade to create Opal using the Desire Syndicate’s Kendra Smith, which later on developed into Mazzy Celebrity. All of those other music group, led by David’s sibling Steven, metamorphosed into Viva Saturn. Viva Saturn relocated to SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA and shifted its audio from dreamy atmospherics to psychedelic-influenced acoustic guitar pop. They required a textured acoustic guitar approach with vocalist Steven and ex-Rain Parade users Matt Piucci and John Thoman on acoustic guitar. A shifting tempo section included Billy Blaze and Continental Drifter Carlo Nuccio on drums and Ross Inden, Kurt Kummerfelt and Gary Eaton on bass. The ultimate Viva Saturn recording, Boats of Heaven, was sent to Restless Information in fall of 1998, however the label experienced no scheduled launch programs. Viva Saturn disbanded, and founding member Steven embarked on a single career.
