The Trio Fontenay was founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 1980 and contains violinist Michael Mücke, cellist Niklas Schmidt, and pianist Wolf Harden. The group researched in Cologne using the Amadeus Quartet, and its own rise to reputation as a high chamber ensemble in European countries was swift. The trio performed frequently in Paris, in celebrations, won several tournaments, and produced its U.S. debut in 1986. In 1987 Trio Fontenay agreed upon a recording agreement with Teldec in Germany and documented every one of the chamber music, highly relevant to the ensemble, of Beethoven and Brahms and in addition modern music by composers like Olivier Messiaen and Wolfgang Rihm. Nevertheless, the Trio Fontenay made a decision to disband in Feb 2006.
