Biography

Trichy Sankaran was created in Trichy in Madras state, India. By age 13, he was earning honours for his percussion shows, and another year began taking part in the annual Karnatak Music Event. Sankaran followed the Karnatak music artists documenting for EMI India between 1969 and 1971 (a few of whom he documented with again within the ’80s). In 1971, Sankaran shifted to Toronto and became founding movie director and teacher of Indian Music Research at York College or university, where he continued to be for many years. Sankaran provides performed with Karnatak performers throughout THE UNITED STATES, and it has came back to India to tour each year. Through his many solo shows and broadcasts, Sankaran provides elevated the kanjira and mridanga towards the position of solo equipment. Sankaran has many of his very own albums, has constructed for the Evergreen Membership (Toronto’s modern gamelan group), and it has toured internationally with several percussion ensembles: Nexus, Globe Drums, and Musaic. In 1998, he was granted an honorary doctorate of music with the School of Victoria in United kingdom Columbia.
