Vocalist Tina Meltzer and her spouse, poet/vocalist/songwriter David Meltzer, were the primary creative causes in the Serpent Power, a late-’60s SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Bay Region psychedelic music group that did 1 recording for Vanguard Information. In 1969, the duo slice a record independently for Vanguard, Poet Track, combining David Meltzer’s spoken poems with mild, bittersweet psychedelic-tinged folk-rock music, generally sung by Tina Meltzer. Although not really a major discover, the album’s good enough. It’s even more guaranteed — and much less derivative — compared to the David Meltzer-penned folk-rock-psychedelic music around the Serpent Power’s LP. Poet Track, now a uncommon LP, was reissued on the single-disc Compact disc by Akarma Information that also contains the Serpent Power’s self-titled recording. Another Tina & David Meltzer recording, Faces, arrived in 1984 on Folkways.
