The Kee-Notes

Spawn of east suburban Sacramento (Folsom-Fair Oaks to become exact), California’s Kee-Notes completed their short 12-month life routine in 1966. The quintet included mam’selle Brea Berry (drums/vocals), Cliff Maurer (electric guitar), Mike Brandt (electric guitar), Danny Curler (bass), and Dick Instness (keyboards). Creator Maurer’s talents had been popular to Brandt (Maurer acquired earlier changed him in the Bishops — another regional Sac combo). The Kee-Notes cut Maurer’s “Quit Changing YOUR BRAIN” (Esar 116) in Dec 1965. Brandt’s recollection was that the group “produced the record mainly just for the knowledge.” The actual fact that it had been documented live under primitive circumstances may describe its unsteadiness, however the bland roller-rink body organ (and undistinguished man vocal) hardly perform the music group credit. Whatever guarantee the Kee-Notes may show was still left unfulfilled. When their supervisor (Maurer’s mother!) divide from her hubby, the group was still left to creator. In 1966, Brandt defected to rival Sacramento clothing the Psy-Kicks. Berry consequently joined up with the Svelts, a girl-group which ultimately moved to LA and rechristened themselves Fanny. “Stop Changing YOUR BRAIN” shows up on the many performers’ compilation, Nuggets FROM YOUR Golden Condition – The Sound Of Youthful Sacramento (Big Defeat CDWIKD 195).
