The Como Mamas

The Como Mamas certainly are a female gospel trio from Como, Mississippi, who got their name because of their participation in Como Now, a compilation of field recordings from 2006 curated by Daptone Information’ Michael Reilly. The group comprises Ester Mae Smith and sisters Angela Taylor and Della Daniels — the last mentioned pair’s grandfather, Mls Pratcher, have been documented in Como by folklorist Alan Lomax in 1959. Their debut record, Get a knowledge, was released by Daptone in early 2013. The important reception was unanimously positive. 3 years afterwards, with the help of the non-profit Music Makers Comfort Base, the Como Mamas documented again, but this time around using the Daptone home band (beneath the moniker the Glorifiers) support them up. The record, Move Upstairs, premiered in-may of 2017.
