A typical product from the mid-2000s metallic deathcore motion, Montreal, Canada’s the Agonist are comprised of vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, guitarist Danny Marino, bassist Chris Kells, and drummer Simon McKay. Shaped in early 2007, the quartet originally passed the name of the Tempest, but quickly produced the change while documenting its debut recording, Once Only Thought, for launch through Century Press. The label after that sent them from tour with labelmates God Forbid and operatic power metallers Epica.
