Richie Davis

The drummer for western Massachusetts-based music group, the Wholesale Klezmer Music group, since 1982, Richie Davis has taken a fresh sensibility towards the group’s sound. Within a 2001 interview, he described, “Personally i think the music surge through me kinetically and make an effort to provide that back again to the music group as well as the dancers on to the floor. It’s the following best thing I understand to getting out there dance myself.” Creating rhythms on pans and pots since early years as a child, Davis started formal drum lessons at age nine. He received his initial drum set being a Club Mitzvah present. Performing with Greek Rings from age fourteen, Davis didn’t start playing klezmer music until 1982 when he became a member of with vocalist/fiddler Joe (Yosl) Kurland, clarinetist Sherry Mayrent, accordion, banjo and guitarist Owen Davidson, bass viola participant Michael Suter, trombonist Brian Bender, flautist/vocalist Peggy Davis and violin, clarinet and bass participant David Tasgal to create the Low cost Klezmer Band. Alongside the group, Davis performed at a Special event of Folk Music, hosted by Pete Seeger, marking the main one hundredth wedding anniversary of Carnegie Hall, and Leader Clinton’s inauguration.
