Pit Er Pat

Chicago post-rock trio Pit Er Pat comprised bassist Rob Doran (a founding person in Alkaline Trio), classically qualified pianist Fay Davis-Jeffers, and drummer Butchy Fuego (a onetime contributor to Natural Milk Resort). Founded in 2003 because the Blackbirds, they shaped to back an area vocalist/songwriter who abruptly remaining town for NEW YORK, forcing the trio to compose a couple of songs to make great on the previously booked live gig; the efficiency was so effective they opted to keep, soon liberating an EP, Crisis, independently Mythologies label. Upon learning of the rival Blackbirds device, the group renamed itself Pit Er Pat honoring a painting by Chicago designer Jim Nutt, in early 2004 reissuing Crisis for the Overcoat label; after liberating a 12″, “The Infants Are Tired,” for the small Born and Elevated on Sugars label, Pit Er Pat authorized to Thrill Jockey, issuing their first full-length work, Shakey, in early 2005. The next yr, they teamed up double in the studio room with Tortoise’s John McEntire as maker: first for the 3D Message EP and once again that fall for the full-length Pyramids. Pit Er Pat documented their third recording, 2008’s ABOUT TIME, in their personal studio room, incorporating a horn section and percussion which range from bongos to agogo bells, rendering it their most musically complicated album up to now. Touring European countries and appearing in the ATP Event influenced 2010’s The Versatile Entertainer, which melded the unique feel of ABOUT TIME with an increase of expansive buildings and stripped-down instrumentation.
