Night Sun

Manheim, Germany’s Night time Sun were much rock and roll group with progressive tendencies, which originally evolved from a late-’60s jazz music group known as Take Five. Briefly calling themselves Evening Sunlight Mournin’, bandmembers Bruno Schaab (vocals, bass), Walter Kirchgassner (electric guitar), Knut Rossler (body organ, piano, trumpet, bassoon), and Ulrich Staudt (drums) shortly dropped the final word and utilized it as the name of their only record, Mournin’, which surfaced through Polydor’s Zebra imprint in 1972. Made by reputed engineer Conny Planck, the album’s eclectic make of organ-laced hard rock and roll received many an optimistic evaluation to big-league contemporaries like Uriah Heep, Atomic Rooster, and Germany’s very own Lucifer’s Friend. Probably it was as well eclectic, though, because minimal local achievement was everything that Night Sunlight ever attained before splitting up in 1973, without further recordings with their name. Frontman Schaab would gain extra identification when he briefly installed with Krautrockers Master Guru, however the rest of Evening Sun’s account quickly faded into oblivion — unlike the Mournin’ LP, fortunately, which became a very much sought-after cult preferred among hard rock and roll enthusiasts.
