Folk duo Neal & Leandra — singer/songwriters Neal Hagberg and Leandra Top — formed following the two met while attending Gustavus Adolphus University in Minnesota in 1981. Hagberg, from Montevideo, MN, was a premed biology main (he later turned disciplines and got a experts level in theology); Top was seeking a masters level in Spanish, but having developed within a musical family members in Louisville, KY, using a father who was simply a professional vocalist, she was showing up inside a campus creation from the musical Godspell when Hagberg proceeded to go backstage to meet up her and asked her to execute with him. Both have been influenced to sing folk music through a link with Expenses Staines, Hagberg by hearing a Staines saving, Maximum by hearing Kate Wolf on the PA while going to a Staines concert. Hagberg and Maximum converted professional after completing their research, founding their personal label, Uncle Gus Music, in 1987 and self-releasing their debut recording, Rocky Street, in 1988. The next year, they wedded. Two even more self-released efforts, Summer season Evening (1990) and Aged Love (1992), made an appearance before they authorized to the Minnesota-based 3rd party folk label Crimson House Records for his or her fourth recording, Hearts & Hammers, released in January 1994. This started to pass on their renown beyond their Top Midwest base. Crimson House reissued Aged Like in 1995, and in March 1996 arrived the duo’s 5th recording, Accidental Dreams. Stranger to My Kin, released in Oct 1998, marked the finish of their association with Crimson House. Time for their personal label, they released the vacation collection Pay attention to the Angels (1999); Bridge Rail (2002), an idea album in regards to a long-term committed romantic relationship; and A Dreamer’s Vacation: A Tribute to Perry Como (2003).
