Methuselah

Methuselah was among a small number of British rock and roll rings signed to Elektra Information in the later ’60s, when that New York-based label, flush with money (thanks to the Doorways and Judy Collins), tried to expand over the rock and roll music and globe stages. Their root base lay in a set of previous ’60s rings, the Dimples and Gospel Backyard, produced by John Gladwin and Terry Wincott, two college close friends from Scunthorpe. Drummer Mick Bradley (from the Sorrows) and guitarist Les Nicol became a member of the psychedelic/pop clothing Gospel Garden as well as the group renamed itself Methuselah. Their affects included folk and gospel music, as well as the quintet were able to put that together being a coherent entire in an electrical rock and roll framework, and got a three-LP agreement with Jac Holzman’s New York-based Elektra Information. Only one record ever noticed the light of time, astonishingly in the U.S. just, blending folk, gospel, and R&B affects, mostly covered up in a difficult rock and roll sound. Using the group totally unknown in the us, however, that recording went undetected and died an instantaneous death. Methuselah flipped ideal around in middle-1969 and cut another album, that was likewise eclectic. Possibly the group could’ve become another Amazing String Music group or Fairport Convention, but also for the actual fact that the next recording, entitled Matthew Tag Luke & John, was under no circumstances released (and, actually, has vanished). Acoustic guitarists John Gladwin and Terry Wincott, having sick and tired of their tools and vocals becoming buried in the weighty electric sound from the band, went a totally different path, into medieval-based folk music, ultimately rechristening themselves the Amazing Blondel and building an market on the faculty folk circuit and getting a recording agreement with Island Information. Mick Bradley joined up with Steamhammer, while Les Nicol and bassist/vocalist Craig Austin produced the psychedelic music group Distant Jim, and Nicol afterwards used Pavlov’s Pup. Methuselah’s only making it through record was re-released on Compact disc in the first 21st century, within the Collector’s Choice reissue plan involving a lot of the past due-’60s Elektra rock and roll catalog.
