Mangu

Mangu was created within the Dominican Republic and raised within the Bronx, but he moved to Miami Seaside to begin saving what he called fonquette, a Latin-based hip-hop design with some contemporary rap affects (including A Tribe Called Mission and KRS-One). His debut solitary, “La Playa,” was made by Joe Galdo and Cesar Sogbe; it presented the montuno piano-playing of Cuban Paquito Hechevarria. “La Playa” made an appearance in 1994, but Mangu didn’t deliver his full-length debut before springtime of 1998, when Calle Luna Calle Sol premiered by Island Information.
