Mamah Diabate

b. 1959, Faranah, Guinea. Mama Diabaté started her musical profession with local music group Outfit Instrumental De Faranah, playing balafon alongside Sona Diabaté. Through the 80s she transferred to the seaside city of Conakry and became the business lead singer from the long-established Horoya Music group. She produced her own music group in 1991 and documented her debut cassette, La Biche De Manding, in Feb 1993. It became a big success across Western world Africa and premiered internationally on Compact disc as Koffi Cola Na Yo in 1995. It highlighted a variety of traditional Manding compliment music and Diabaté’s very own compositions, coping with issues such as for example polygamy and the treating children, all shipped in Diabaté’s deep, fresh voice with support from a little, predominantly electric, music group. A follow-up regional cassette was much less well received and was hardly ever provided a wider discharge.
