Leslie ‘Jiver’ Hutchinson

b. 18 March 1906, Crossroads, St. Andrews, Jamaica, Western world Indies, d. 22 November 1959, Weeting, Norfolk, Britain. Schooled in the trumpet in Jamaica’s Western world India Regiment military band, Hutchinson made an appearance in London with them on the 1924 Empire Exhibition, Wembley. Fellow WIR bandsman Louis Stephenson acquired moved to Britain in 1935 with saxophonist Bertie Ruler and pianist Yorke de Souza, and in 1936 Hutchinson implemented, signing up for them in drummer Content Blake’s music group at Soho’s Cuba Membership. He used trumpeter Leslie Thompson’s Emperors Of Jazz, who had been fronted by dancer Ken ‘Snakehips’ Johnson, after that documented and performed intermittently with Johnson’s Western world Indian Dance Orchestra when the dancer overran the command.
