La Habana Canta a Sabina

The brainchild of producer Imanol Ortiz (who was simply in charge of the similarly themed Latin Grammy-nominated tribute to Joan Manuel Serrat), La Habana Canta a Sabina is a collective of established Cuban music artists who came together to pay homage to influential Spanish singer/songwriter and poet Joaquín Sabina. Documented in Havana, the amazing selection of vocalists’ 2011 self-titled tribute contains ten cover variations of Sabina’s best-loved tunes from famous brands Nuevo Trova Cubana founders Pablo Milanés (“Uno Cancion Em virtude de la Magdalena”) and Amaury Pérez (“A la Sombra de el Leon”), Guantanamo duo Buena Fe (“La Cancion Mas Hermosa del Mundo”), Buena Vista Sociable Club vocalist Carlos Kalunga (“Quien Me Ha Robado un Mes de Abril”), salsa vocalist Ivette Cepeda (“Como el Dolor de Muelas”), and composer Frank Fernandez (“19 Dias con 500 Noches”).
