From Little Rock to LA, from slinging junk food to spitting hot rhymes, Kari Faux (née Johnson) brought the organic circulation of old-school ’90s rap and updated it with poignant, oftentimes hilarious lyrics online age. Raised inside a Southern gospel and traditional custom by her parents (a manufacturing plant employee and minister), she began rapping for fun as an in-joke with her close friends. Multiple mixtapes afterwards, she had created a hypnotic stream, a knack for smart wordplay, and a witty deadpan that befit her self-proclaimed nickname “Rap Video game Daria” (following the well-known past due-’90s, early-aughts MTV toon).
