John Eichleay

Having a diverse litany of influences which range from old blues to flamenco, Gypsy jazz, reggae, and rock and roll, which he incorporates right into a smooth, almost Beatlesque pop sound, guitarist and songwriter John Eichleay was created in 1978 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was encircled by music as a kid, with his mom favoring samba and his dad favoring traditional music, nonetheless it wasn’t until his mom bought him a trio of albums (by B.B. Ruler, Hank Williams, and Carole Ruler) when he was 14 years of age that Eichleay embraced learning to be a musician. He began on classical acoustic guitar but was quickly discovering everything he may find, from blues and funk to jazz and bluegrass. In 1997 he shifted to Chicago to wait DePaul College or university, where he became close friends with guitarist Alfonso Ponticelli. After graduating having a level in religious research, Eichleay hung around in Pittsburgh until 2002, when he came back towards the Chicago region and, starting up with Ponticelli, became a member of Ponticelli’s Gypsy golf swing band Golf swing Gitan, appearing for the group’s debut recording, Alfonso Ponticelli and Golf swing Gitan. Departing the group and shifting to Brooklyn, NY, Eichleay started playing within a trio with close friends Jaime Bishop and Jordan Perlson, leading to the self-produced John Eichleay (which also presented Adam Kipple on keyboards), that was released by Copper Beech Information in 2008.
