Joel Diamond

New York-based composer, arranger and pianist/keyboardist Joel Gemstone has successfully fused his interests in “significant” orchestral music and modern electronica. His string quartet, “Danza Caprichosa”, documented by Orchestra Nova, was nominated to get a Grammy prize. His ballet, Leonard And Minky, was premiered, with narration by Mayor Ed Koch and choreography by John Selya, at New York’s Dance Movie theater Workshop, in January 2000. Diamond’s chamber parts have already been performed with the Apple Brass Quintet and Orchestra Nova and four of his ballets have already been presented with the Cuban Country wide Ballet. His ratings have been highlighted in Henry Bean’s The Believer, champion from the feature film competition for crisis on the Sundance International Film Festival in 2001, Jacques Thelemaque’s The Doghouse, Adam Bruce’s The Suicide Membership as well as the PBS creation, Heart FROM THE Garden. An extremely sought program pianist, Diamond spent some time working with such performers as Mick Taylor, Graham Parker and Jane Oliver. The manufacturer from the soundtrack albums for Welcome TOWARDS THE Dollhouse and David Mamet’s Oleanna, Gemstone is a staff manufacturer for Chesky since 1998, overseeing albums by Rebecca Paris, Livingston Taylor and Sarah K..
