Durham-based singer/guitarist Jake Xerxes Fussell includes a background steeped in the original music and folklore from the American Southern. The son of the folklorist, curator, and professional photographer, Fussell led a relatively rambling childhood journeying with his dad to record older bluesmen, research the social vernacular, and collaborate with Local American performers. These early endeavors into rural academia birthed in him an excellent fascination with music, and by his teenage years he was mixed up in old-time folk picture of his indigenous Columbus, Georgia and apprenticing with local blues guitar tale Precious Bryant. On the arriving years, his research would consider him to California, Mississippi, and finally Durham, NEW YORK. He honed his acoustic guitar skills seated in with countless performers and bands, showing up on the Prairie Home Friend and touring with Rev. John Wilkins. In 2014 he fulfilled experimental guitarist William Tyler, who decided to make Fussell’s first recording.
