Biography

A high bebop trumpeter with a variety, Idrees Sulieman’s decision to go to Scandinavia in 1961 has cut into his potential popularity, but led to steady focus on the Continent. He examined at Boston Conservatory, and obtained early experience using the Carolina Natural cotton Pickers as well as the wartime Earl Hines Orchestra (1943-1944). Sulieman was carefully connected with Mary Lou Williams for a while; he also caused Thelonious Monk in 1947, and acquired stints with Cab Calloway, Count number Basie, and Lionel Hampton. Sulieman documented with Coleman Hawkins (1957) and gigged with Randy Weston (1958-1959), furthermore to showing up in many various other situations. He visited European countries in 1961 to tour with Oscar Dennard, and resolved in Stockholm, shifting to Copenhagen in 1964. A significant soloist using the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland big music group in the mid-’60s through 1973, Sulieman provides frequently caused radio orchestras. His recordings being a leader have already been for Swedish Columbia (1964) and SteepleChase (1976 and 1985). Sulieman’s profession slowed down significantly within the ’90s as he got old; he passed away of bladder cancers on July 23, 2002 at St. Anthony’s Medical center in St. Petersberg, Florida.
