Self-proclaimed “boy band” I USED TO BE a Cub Scout are Nottingham, England’s Todd Marriott (vocals, synthesizer, guitar) and William Bowerman (drums), who joined up with together while teenagers following playing in split punk bands. The theory had its origins with Marriott, who began being a one-man act in middle-2005, with Bowerman becoming involved early 2006. The duo’s mixture of emo, indie rock and roll, and consumer electronics was satisfactory more than enough for XL Information imprint Abeano, which released the singles Green Squares (November 2006) and I Hate Nightclubs (March 2007).
