Helado Negro

Among experimental electronic manufacturer Roberto Carlos Lange’s numerous monikers, Helado Negro is a collaborative task connected with Asthmatic Kitty Information that made its record debut in ’09 2009 with Awe Owe. Delivered in South Florida in 1980 of Ecuadorian traditions, Lange produced his documenting debut in the first 2000s, when he released music under a few different monikers, especially ROM (a cooperation with drummer Matt Crum), Epstein, and Growth & Parrots. The eponymous recording ROM (2005) on Wimm Recordings is usually a compilation of Lange’s collaborations with Crum dating back again to 2000. He was most prolific as Epstein, liberating the full-length albums Puñal (2004), Gente Sin Pueblo (2005), Canto de Hermanos (2007), and Otros (2008); the former two around the label Botanica del Jibaro, the second option two on Arepaz. As Growth & Parrots, he released the recording Camino de Manos Chuecas (2005) on Arepaz. After shifting to Brooklyn, NY, in 2006, Lange started a fruitful cooperation with Guillermo Scott Herren, generating co-production credits around the Prefuse 73 produces The Course of 73 Bells (2007) and Everything She Handled Converted Ampexian (2009) on Warp Information, in addition to the Savath + Savalas recording La Llama (2009) on Rocks Toss. In the wake of the high-profile produces in cooperation with Herren, Lange produced his recording debut as Helado Negro with Awe Owe (2009) on Asthmatic Kitty. An extremely collaborative work, Awe Owe presented insight from Herren, previous ROM collaborator Crum (also of Feathers), Jon Philpot (the frontman of Carry in Heaven), and several others. In comparison, Lange documented Helado Negro’s second recording, 2011’s Canta Lechuza (“Owl Performing”) after holing up inside a cabin in Connecticut. In 2012, Lange collaborated with Julianna Barwick as OMBRE, liberating the recording Believe You Me. Invisible Existence, which presented Lange performing in English aswell as Spanish, found its way to early 2013. Helado Negro came back in 2014 with Two times Youngsters, a nostalgic, home-recorded group of tunes that took motivation from a poster he previously owned since child years and rediscovered while cleaning up a wardrobe. In 2015, collaborators including Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier and Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen helped provide music from Helado Negro’s Isle Universe Tale cassette series to St. Paul, Minnesota’s Ordway Concert Hall as Isle Universe Tale: Selected Functions. The following season, all three amounts of Isle Universe Tale — that have been released between 2012 and 2014 — had been issued being a compilation by Asthmatic Kitty. Helado Negro’s following record was preceded by a set of singles, 2015’s “Youthful, Latin & Very pleased” and “It’s My Dark brown Epidermis,” reflecting the designs of Latin satisfaction and cultural understanding on the rest of Personal Energy. Informed by ’70s Latin spirit and dub, the record appeared in Oct 2016.
