Giancarlo Schiaffini

Blessed in Rome, where he even now lives, trombonist Giancarlo Schiaffini graduated using a level in Physics, but still left scientific analysis for music. He’s been an integral amount in both Italian songs and the Western european improvised music moments, using Evan Parker, Maarten Altena, Barry Man, and documenting with Andrea Centazzo and Lol Coxhill (Circumstances, New Build, 2000), amongst others. Self-taught over the device, Schiaffini examined and earned levels at Darmstadt, working in the educational avant-garde realm using the improvising group Nuova Consonanza, and playing single compositions by Berio and Scelsi. He’s also the specified soloist for Luigi Nono’s Prometheus, and it is a conservatory instructor. For the even more experimental part of his function, Schiaffini makes innovative use of consumer electronics, as recorded on Edula (Pentaphon) as well as the Missing Chainring (Imprint, 2001), aswell as with his textbook on modern trombone techniques. However Schiaffini will not renounce his jazz origins, which is similarly apparent in his improvisations, in his teaching actions for the Siena Jazz Programs, as well as with his unique tributes towards the music of Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk, Like a Parrot and About Monk (Pentaflowers). The SIC Trio, with percussionist Iannaccone and saxophonist Eugenio Colombo, documented many LPs in the ’70s and a live Compact disc in the 1994 Controindicazioni Event in Rome (Passemmezzo, Splasc(h), 1996). With Dubs (ART-PURecords), Schiaffini released strings, Silvia Schiavoni’s tone of voice, and the original Iranian percussion of Mohsen Kasirossafar; while a gathering using the Peter Fraize Trio resulted in the invigorating free of charge bop of Deconstruction! documented reside in Washington (Pentaflowers, 2001) with music by Monk and Ellington, and originals influenced from the music of Cuba, where he trained. Co-founder from the Instabile Orchestra, Schiaffini writes articulate, witty suites for the music group, like Litania Sibilante (Enja, 2001).
