Extra Golden

A cross-continental cooperation, Extra Golden began with Ian Eagleson’s paperwork from the Benga music of Kenya and Nairobi for his doctoral thesis. Beginning in 2000, Eagleson was aided in his function by Kenyan musician Otieno Jagwasi, who performed in a music group with drummer Onyango Wuod Omari known as Orchestra Extra Solar Africa. Eagleson came back to Africa in 2004 for even more study, but this time around, he brought a portable studio room alongside him. In Apr of that season, Eagleson’s bandmate from Washington, D.C.’s Golden, Alex Minoff (also of Strange War), made a decision to go to Nairobi and further Golden were delivered. A really collaborative work between African and American music artists, Ok-Oyot Program was documented (generally) within a afternoon in a nightclub in Nairobi. Unfortunately, Otieno Jagwasi passed on in-may of 2005 because of liver failing. In 2006, motivated by Extra Golden’s documenting, Thrill Jockey Information suggested that the rest of the members to push out a follow-up. Immediately after, Otieno’s sibling Onyango Wuod Omari and Benga superstar Opiyo Bilongo teamed up using the group, and following a five-day documenting session within a Pa house, the group surfaced with Hera Ma Nono in Oct 2007. Extra Golden implemented it up with MANY THANKS RAPIDLY in early 2009.
