In 1969 she started studies on the Moscow Conservatory, where her most significant instructor was Stanislas Neuhaus. In the meantime, she changed her places on some of the most esteemed piano tournaments: that same season she became a award winner on the Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris; in 1974, the entire year she completed her Moscow research, she linked for sixth award on the Tchaikovsky International Competition; and in 1978 she captured third award on the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels. While she acquired a reasonably effective profession in France through the 1970s, Engerer’s worldwide breakthrough emerged in 1980 when Karajan asked her to try out using the Berlin Philharmonic. She was a crucial success and came back two years afterwards for the orchestra’s centenary festivities.
