This artist performed on greater than a dozen recording sessions in the late ’30s and early ’40s, including controversial big band beneath the leadership of Red Nichols. Billy Shepherd can be often defined as Costs Shepard. In any case he shouldn’t be confused using the trombonist from the same name who recommended William Shepherd but was nicknamed “Shep.” It could be assumed the same moniker may have been found in mention of the Billy Shepherd who tripled on clarinet aswell as alto and tenor saxophone.
