The very first thing to understand about Costs Jones is the fact that Costs isn’t short for William — it’s an abbreviation of Belinda. Once you have taken that up to speed, you’re prepared to understand one of the most interesting young root base performers to emerge from Britain. Blessed in Staffordshire, she was raised with music throughout the house; her dad played fiddle within a ceilidh band and followed Morris dancers, while her part-Indian mom was an enormous Buddy Holly buff, singing his music as she do the housework. Jones herself became a precocious musical skill, as she started traditional piano and flute lessons while still youthful and in addition playing traditional music with her dad. At age 11, Jones visited a boarding college that customized in music, using the intention to become a traditional pianist. She continued to be there five years before dithering about certification that would obtain her into school. But following a year . 5 of the arts level at Middlesex School, she fell out, finding yourself at London’s Town University on the training course that included a lot of ethnomusicological research, even while playing in rock and roll bands, among which, the Wide Wound, brought her to playing accordion. On her behalf university undergraduate thesis, she performed folk tracks and come up with a Morris dance group, then shifted to the North East of Britain teaching and planning a solo work. Jones’ discovery came in Sept 2000 when she was presented on the BBC radio folk display.
