Adrian Rollini

Adrian Rollini was the best bass saxophonist ever, among the initial jazz vibraphonists, along with a talented multi-instrumentalist who will make music in such novelty instruments because the “sizzling hot fountain pen” (a small clarinet using a saxophone mouthpiece) along with a “goofus.” The old sibling of tenor saxophonist Arthur Rollini, he performed piano and xylophone being a youngsters, carrying out Chopin in the Waldorf Astoria when he was four. After becoming a member of the California Ramblers in 1922, it had been recommended that Rollini find out the potentially troublesome bass sax; it just took him weekly. An important person in the California Ramblers, Rollini produced many records using the studio room group, and in addition along with his “Goofus Five.” A participant on Bix Beiderbecke and Frankie Trumbauer recordings in 1927, Rollini also lower sides with Crimson Nichols and Joe Venuti. He spent 2 yrs (through the latter section of 1927 through 1929) in London carrying out with Fred Elizalde. After his go back to NY, Rollini worked within the studios, leading many record times from 1933-1940; in 1934, he opened up his own golf club (Adrian’s Tap Space), and started to emphasize his vibraphone playing. A good but not exceptional vibraphonist, Rollini continuing working with little groups in a variety of hotels through the 1940s and in to the ’50s (documenting a Mercury LP on vibes in the first ’50s), finally settling in Florida.
