Andy Kershaw

The web host of a favorite radio shows on BBC’s Radio 1 and Radio 4, Andy Kershaw has played a significant role in the growing popularity of world music in britain. Although he was hired like a rock and roll deejay, Kershaw offers increasingly integrated blues, folk, nation & traditional western and African music into his development. A keen record collector, Kershaw bought his 1st record, Slade’s “Mama, WE ARE ALL Crazee Right now,” in 1972. Hard rock and roll and rock stayed his prime concentrate until a documenting by Bob Dylan influenced him to get even more roots-oriented music. His passions in African music had been sparked with a Bhundu Males documenting. Despite his desire for nonmainstream music though, Kershaw proceeds to talk about his musical discoveries along with his hearing audience. Inside a 1998 interview he accepted, “I think it is amazing that I’m still right here.”
