Lauren Newton

This American-born vocalist/composer made a name for herself in Germany, first being a singer with Mathias Rüegg’s Vienna Art Orchestra, then with a bunch of European avant-gardists, including Fritz Hauser, Jon Rose, and Vladimir Tarasov. Newton transferred to European countries in 1974 after finding a level in music in the School of Oregon. She eventually studied at the institution of Music in Stuttgart, Germany. Newton’s initial single LP, Timbre, gained a German Critics’ Prize in 1983 (the record — renamed Filigree — was re-released on compact disk in 1998 with the Leo label). Furthermore to her jazz-oriented function, Newton in addition has performed 20th hundred years artwork music. She’s documented prolifically with these musicians (amongst others) so that as a head. She’s been a dynamic educator; since 1978, she’s trained privately and in several European academic establishments. She caused the Austrian poet Ernst Jandl from 1983-1999. A few of Newton’s various other collaborators have already been bassist Jöelle Léandre, guitarist Christy Doran, saxophonist/composer Anthony Braxton, and pianist/composer Hannes Zerbe. Newton’s artwork explores the abstract usage of vocabulary and nontraditional noises and vocal methods.
