Lewis burst onto the picture in 1999, when their Improvement & Regress revealed their knack for tense, jangly emo rock and roll. The band, comprising vocalist/guitarist Brett Tohlen, guitarist Matt Beaton, bassist Jeff Truly, and drummer John Owen Parish, was called after the writer C.S. Lewis, leading to many to mistake them to get a solo work. Their second record, Even So, premiered on Deep Elm Information in the summertime of 2002.
