Foul Play

Perhaps one of the most important collectives in breakbeat dance’s change from hardcore to jungle through the early ’90s, Foul Play was in charge of seminal drum’n’bass monitors like “Open up YOUR BRAIN,” “Getting with You” and their remix of Omni Trio’s “Renegade Snares” (all recorded for Moving Darkness Information). The trio of Steve Bradshaw, John Morrow and Steve Gurley started releasing materials in the first ’90s, independently Imprint label in addition to Section 5 and Oblivion. From 1992 to 1994, Bad Play documented a raft of common tracks for Shifting Darkness. Though Gurley still left in 1994 to become listed on Rogue Unit, the rest of the duo kept focusing on making and released just the second musician full-length on Shifting Darkness, 1995’s Suspected. Bad Play also founded another label, Panik Information, though Bradshaw’s tragic loss of life in 1998 still left the group’s potential cloudy. Morrow came back the following calendar year with a fresh project, Bad Play Productions, arranged with manufacturer Neil Shepherd.
