Peru Negro

Afro-Peruvian ensemble Perú Negro was shaped by Ronaldo Campos de la Colina to preserve dark Peruvian heritage. The group accomplished a status for rescuing traditional music and dances and received worldwide acknowledgement after David Byrne’s Luaka Bop released a compilation known as Afro-Peruvian classics: The Spirit of Dark Peru, featuring tunes by Perú Negro, Susana Baca, Lucila Campos, and regional superstar Chabuca Granda, among various other prominent performers. In 1999, Western european label Globe Connection released Sangre De El Don, released in the U.S. in 2001. That same season, the band’s creator passed away following a heart failure.
