Ugly Casanova

According to story, “Ugly Casanova” may be the pencil name utilized by a crazed Modest Mouse lover named Edgar Graham who also broke in to the band’s display in Denver in 1998. Intrigued from the man’s publications filled with potential track lyrics, frontman Issac Brock put together a hodgepodge of Pacific Northwestern close friends to realize a number of the terms as tunes in 2000. The producing recording, Sharpen Your Tooth, appeared in-may 2002 on Sub Pop. With this incarnation, Ugly Casanova was the task of Brock, Brian Deck and Tim Rutili (of Califone and Crimson Red Meats), Paul Jenkins (from the Dark Center Procession), and John Orth (of Holopaw). Furthering the manic alt-country from the Moon & Antarctica-era Modest Mouse, the recording features plaintive melodies and Brock’s brand, rough-hewn voice performing his “discovered” lyrics. The music group toured in June and July 2002 with Kingsbury Manx and Iron & Wines.
