Steve Lehman

Saxophonist, composer, educator, and scholar Steve Lehman is really a forward-thinking musician with wide musical understanding from classical to jazz along with a bent toward executing avant-garde and contemporary creative jazz. Blessed in NEW YORK, Lehman examined saxophone in senior high school and eventually gained his B.A. in structure in 2000 and his M.A. in structure from Wesleyan School in 2002. From 2002-2003, Lehman examined in France being a Fulbright Scholar, researching how African-American experimental composers had been received in France in the 1970s. Whilst in college, Lehman examined with multi-reed participant Anthony Braxton and saxophonist Jackie McLean on the Hartt College of Music. Being a executing artist, he spent some time working using a bevy of likewise inclined music artists, including pianist Dave Burrell, bassist Tag Dresser, pianist Vijay Iyer, saxophonist Oliver Lake, among others. In 2001 Lehman released his debut record being a head, Structural Fire. Then implemented up with many experimental and avant-garde-inclined albums, including 2005’s Demian as Posthuman, 2007’s Manifold, 2008’s User interface, and 2009’s Travail, Change and Flow. This year 2010 he collaborated with saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa on Dual Identification and returned the next calendar year with Kaleidoscope & Collage, offering two extended parts performed with bassist/composer Stephen Crump. In 2012 Lehman released the trio record Dialect Fluorescent, implemented two years afterwards with the octet time Mise en Abîme. In 2017 he shipped the expansive, hip-hop-influenced Selebeyone, offering efforts from Antipop Consortium’s HPrizm.
