Some Velvet Sidewalk

Alongside fellow natives Beat Happening, Some Velvet Sidewalk helped establish Olympia, WA, as an epicenter from the American indie rock and roll community through the entire 1980s and 1990s, their minimalist sound and wide-eyed world look at giving rise towards the emergence from the love-rock ethic. Originally a duo made up of vocalist/guitarist Al Larsen and drummer Robert Christie, Some Velvet Sidewalk debuted in 1988 having a cassette entitled From Playground Right up until Now; the sole “I UNDERSTAND,” their first launch for the famed regional label K Documents, adopted later on that same 12 months. Following the full-length Hunger for Extinction, Christie remaining the group, and was changed by bassist Don Blair and drummer Martin Bernier with time for 1992’s Avalanche; the I Scream EP adopted in 1993, along with a 12 months later on Some Velvet Sidewalk came back with Whirlpool. Though not really released until 1995, Shipwreck was in fact documented in 1990 and meant because the band’s second recording; after issuing the all-new Generate as well as the Lowdown in 1997, Some Velvet Sidewalk disbanded, with Larsen quickly resurfacing within the Polar Bears.
