Snooks Friedman

A supportive drummer, Snooks Friedman led Snooks and his Memphis Stompers, a spirited group that recorded 42 game titles during 1931-32. Friedman began playing skillfully in the summertime of 1923 using the Ole Miss Jesters. He found knowledge with the rings of Meyer Davis and Hip Bennett (in Arkansas and Wisconsin respectively), documenting using the last mentioned. In 1926 he came back to his hometown and arranged the Memphis Stompers. Under that name, Friedman documented six game titles in 1928 in Memphis and two in Camden, NJ in 1929. The music group, originally a sextet, grew to ten items by enough time it relocated to NY in past due-1928. A versatile group that could play both sizzling jazz and infectious dance music, it worked well at lots of the main theatres (including a six-month operate at Roseland). In 1931 with the help of a string quartet, the music group started what will be three years in the Paramount Resort. Until his pension in 1972, Snooks Friedman continued to be active around city, using his personal group and sometimes like a sideman.
