b. 15 Apr 1930, Chicago, Illinois, USA. A superbly achieved jazz bass participant, Davis worked around his city during the past due 40s and early 50s while carrying on his musical research. Between 1953 and 1955, he caused Sunlight Ra, Ahmad Jamal and Don Shirley and later on in the 10 years began an extended association with Sarah Vaughan. Within the 60s Davis caused several musicians from the even more forward-thinking regions of jazz. Significant among these was Eric Dolphy and in addition Jaki Byard. Davis’ eclecticism was in a way that he was asked for recording classes and public looks with music artists as varied as Earl Hines, Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Billy Cobham and Igor Stravinsky. For an extended period by the end from the 60s he was also first-call bass participant for the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. In 1977 Davis started teaching in the University or college of Wisconsin. A masterly specialist, Davis takes on with a complete audio and his accompaniment is a superb advantage to soloists. His personal solos are conceived with cleverness and a robust yet usually tuneful plangency.
